When you have once involved yourself with the Estonian start-up environment, you get invitation to all kind of seminars, programs and venues every day. You can go for it and lose yourself, or you can pick the ones that really back you up building a start-up. A total jackpot was the Startup Sauna local event in Tallinn. Every minute was well spent. You don´t see that too often. So how do they do that? Startup Sauna, the famous start-up accelerator based in Helsinki, tends to plan everything and waits the same from the participants in their events. They send you links to the blog posts how you should prepare, not only the pitch but also the questions for the mentors. It should be a standard, shouldn´t it? Check out: http://startupsauna.com/2015/03/13/do-your-homework/ The pitch round was like clockwork, no delays, no small talk from the jury. Like a Finnish Sauna with more than 100 degrees in the room. You perform for the few minutes and its done, and out into the snow. We had the opportunity for 1to1 coaching. The questions we had prepared got really answered. Thanks Patrick Campbell for the feedback of our pricing plans, thankfully we were already on the same page. Sven Illing, thanks for the honest thoughts and feedback considering the team and commitment, Welix Klaas and Raul Malmstein for the starting up tips and Inka Mero, Timo Tirkkonen and Mike Bradshaw for the tips what are the strength that we should focus on in our product. The session ended like clockwork. Three of the best performed teams were chosen. Marina Ahoy was one of them. YEAH! And before we even got used to the results, everybody was already leaving the Garage48 HUB. We will apply to the Startup Sauna Accelerator!

Same event. Another competition.

As the VUNK Garage48 Hackathon was a Eesti Telekom project adding value to telekom sector it was hard to compete with teams using SIM cards or payment solutions provided by telekom itself. I didn´t mention in my previous posts that the 7 finalists competed during their stay in Startup Wise Guys pre-accelerator to get the next paid month in the same accelerator with mentoring from telekom people. Yes, we were not choosen amongst those two.

But as in every year Ajujaht, an Enterprice Estonia project promoting enterpreneurship, chooses someone from Garage48 events directly to Ajujaht TOP30, they didn´t this year . At least they didn´t do it at the end of the hackathon. The teams where strong and we where all been given the chance to improve ourselves further.

So we got the third prize, or the first when we mean that we where the first Ajujaht TOP30 team this year. Another program, another sprint.

Friends liked the idea. Sure. But after positive feedback from a local marina operator we knew we have to get further soon.

On 28 of August the VUNK Garage48 Hackathon was held organized by Eesti Telekom and Startup Wise Guys accelerator. A good place to validate the idea in a higher level, get likeminded teammates and give the idea a name.

Relika pitched. Yes she stumbled but her sailor themed drass saved us I suppose. We got an awsome team. First came Sami, then Taavi, Rasmus, Gleb, Meelis and thanks to Meelis came Simmo. It was one of the biggest teams in this event.

During the first night Marina Ahoy was born. And in less than 48 hours we had the service platform prototype for presenting, a decent service model and a team to make it happen.

Taavi is missing
